ALICIA VILLARREAL

Alicia Villarreal, 83, a faithful servant of the Lord, was called to His loving arms on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Alicia was born in Mexico City on July 30, 1929 to Jose Guadalupe and Ramona G. Villarreal of Laredo, Texas. After her mother died two years later, she was raised by her maternal grandmother and her aunt and uncles in Mexico City. As a teenager, she came to Laredo and attended St. Augustine High School where she also worked in the parish office. The parish priest and her teachers immediately recognized her intelligence and potential when she quickly learned English and excelled in all her studies. At the age of 24, she returned to Mexico City to be with the family members who had raised her as a child.

Alicia worked for many years at Aseguradora Mexicana, starting as a bilingual secretary and ending her career there as an insurance adjuster. She took care of her aunt and her uncles in Mexico City, seeing them through illness and being by their side at their death. In 2005, she returned to Laredo to be with her siblings.

Throughout her life, Alicia enjoyed traveling to numerous cities all over the world. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Guadalupe Villarreal and Ramona G. Villarreal; her siblings, Guadalupe V. Quesada, Olga Leonor, Victor Manuel, Maria de Los Angeles and Cristobal Javier Villarreal.

Surviving her are sisters, Eva E. Villarreal, Josefina (Luis) Diaz De Leon, and Carmen (Ramiro, deceased) V. Lobo; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and many family members in Mexico City and Puebla.
