He moved his growing family away from his beloved birth place of Laredo, Texas leaving behind his parents and sisters to pursue a career in the Steel Mill industry, Gary, IN; he was a hard worker who provided a better opportunity for his wife and his children and was also able to take care of his ailing parents and his in laws. He was a devoted Catholic who was a member of the Catholic community at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Miller, IN. He worked at Inland Steel in the No. 2 Coke Plant beginning in 1974 until his retirement in 1996.
Beto moved back to Laredo, Texas and became a parishioner at San Luis Rey Catholic Church after his retirement and pursued his passion of gardening and fishing full time. He loved to wake early in the morning to start his day working the land and to see the fruit of his labor. He took great pride in the care of his lawn and his numerous fruit trees that included grapefruit, oranges, fig, lime and pecan trees.
He looked forward to his daily walks at the Mall Del Norte and enjoying a cup of coffee with his Veteran friends that he made along the way.
