Obituary

ALTAGRACIA PONCE GARZA Altagracia Ponce Garza, age 62, a native Laredoan, died peacefully August 16, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. Alta as she was called by her friends and family graduated from Martin High in 1971 and always remained a faithful tiger. She worked at Laredo State Center as an accountant with La Posada and Laredo Country Club. She was an active parishioner of San Luis Rey Church. In her last illness she showed a strength and courage that could only come from her great faith in the Lord Jesus. The many friends and relatives that visited her marveled at her serene and peaceful countenance which gave the impression that she was well. She remained witty, conscious and alert till the very end. She not only interacted with everyone and made them feel welcomed but was consciously present in every word. Her great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Mary Help of Christians was contagious. Her deep faith and joyful loving attitude will long be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose G. Ponce and Jacinta Moreno. She is survived by her loving husband, of 32 years of marriage, Rodolfo Garza. Stepdaughter, Monica (Oscar) Urdiales. Grandchildren, Brandon Urdiales, Ryan Urdiales and Mat Jake Urdiales. Sisters, Sister Martina Ponce, F.M.A., Maria Guadalupe (Arnaldo) Sanchez, Maria P. (Carlos) Valdez and Maria Socorro Gonzalez. Brothers, Jose (Irma) Ponce Jr. and Calixto "Kelly" Ponce. Sister in Law, Linda Rubio and family. Also surviving her are nephews, nieces, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons East Chapel, 4500 Thomas Ave. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will be held at a later date.
