Obituary

We knew her as Amparito, Amparo, Tia Amparo, Mother Dear and Little Grandma. She was born on March 11, 1929 in Houston, in a house on Center Street where St. Stephen's Church now stands. She was child of the depression and was blessed with challenges and accomplishments which fed her appreciation of life. Her words of wisdom (among many) were that "not having" gave an appreciation of "having" even the smallest of blessings. She moved to Laredo in 1968 leaving behind an extensive family tree in both Houston and Galveston. She worked at Joe's Maytag Laundromat on San Bernardo where she made many lasting friendships and upon her retirement, made many more friends as an Avon Sales Representative. She dedicated her free time to family, outings with friends and visiting shut- in friends. Amparito passed away gently in her daughter's arms on January 9 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Victor Hernandez and is survived by her daughter, Stella Cox along with her loving grandsons: Steven, Brian, Philip, Evan and Nicholas. We miss you dearly Grama.
