ANA MARIA OTAL DE ALVARADO Ana Maria Otal de Alvarado, 99, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 15, 2013, surrounded by her family. Anita, as she was also affectionately known, died after a short illness. She was born in Mexico City D.F., Mexico on July 26, 1913. At the age of 10, she came to Laredo with her parents, Don Carlos Otal and Esther Linares de Otal, where her father established a store in downtown Laredo. Anita attended the old Laredo High which was located at the present location of La Posada Hotel. After graduation she assisted her father in the running of the business. It was during this time that she met her husbandAgustin A. Alvarado, Sr., and they married in 1939. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Don Carlos Otal and Esther Linares Otal; her brother, Carlos Otal, II.; her sister-in-law, Anita Alvarado Otal; her husband, Judge A. A. Alvarado.; her daughter Ana Maria Alvarado; and her grandson, Agustin Alvarado, III. She is survived by her sons Agustin (Olga) Alvarado Jr. of Laredo and Antonio (Cheryl) Alvarado of Austin. Her grandsons, Alberto Jaime (Brisa) Alvarado of Laredo; Marco A. (Irma) Alvarado of Austin and David A. Alvarado from Chicago, Illinois; her granddaughters, Christina Lamar (Martin) Alarcon of Laredo and Laura E. Alvarado from Boston, Massachusetts; her nephews, Carlos (Alina) Otal III, from Fairfax, Virginia and Francisco (Jacqui) Otal from Richardson, Texas; her niece, Mary Esther Otal (Papa Joe) Lungren from Indiana; as well as 11 great grandchildren. A devout Catholic of unwavering faith, Anita lived a simple, yet beautiful life in accordance with God's Plan. She was an avid reader who enjoyed hobbies like stamp and coin collecting, knitting, and in her later years, Anita took pleasure in crossword puzzles and playing the Mexican card game Loteria.' However, her greatest joy was spending time with the family she loved so much. She witnessed many things in her nearly 100 years on this earth, but the one constant in her life was the unconditional love she shared with her family, friends and neighbors. The Alvarado Family would like to thank Dr. Joaquin G. Cigarroa for his utmost care of Anita during her final days, to all of the nurses from the Laredo Medical Center second floor, 2E, to the ER nurses staff, to ER Nurse Martha Garza and to all the staff of Retama Nursing Home South for their kindness and dedication to Anita during her residency. The family also extends its sincere thanks to two special ladiesMaria Guadalupe Gutierrez and Juanita Gomezwho took care of Anita during her residency at the nursing home. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. John Newmann Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
