ARTURO TIJERINA
Arturo Tijerina, 78 passed away on June 21, 2021 in Laredo, Texas surrounded by his family.
Mr. Tijerina was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he served with the United States Army for 28 years. He enlisted in 1960 and did his Basic Airborne and Jump Master Course after his basic training he did his tour of duty in Saigon, Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne. Division. He was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, AFEM (Vietnam), Good Conduct Medal (3rd AWD), Jump Master Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, (7) Overseas Bars, Gallantry Cross and the Master Parachutist Badge.
He was Honorably discharged in 1970 having reached the rank of Sergeant First Class. After his tour of duty He went on to college and received his degree and was later employed with the State with Child Protective Services as a Investigator. He also was employed for 4 years at LCC as the Director of Adult Education, and as the Dean of Adult Education, at LCC for 6 years. He taught Criminology and Sociology classes at Laredo State University. He will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian M. and Susana Muñoz Tijerina.
Siblings, Julian Tijerina Jr., Eulalia T. Guzman and Imelda T. Leyendecker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josie Peña Tijerina.
Sons, Julian (Raquel) Tijerina and Fernando Tijerina.
Grandchildren, Gaby Tijerina, Melinda Yvette Peña, Kimberly Anderson, Homer Peña Jr., Scotty Anderson and Kaitlyn Anderson.
Siblings, Susana T. (Fred) Yguerabide, Jorge (Leticia) Tijerina and Alicia (Arnoldo+) Silva.
Also surviving him are other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Religious service officiated by Rev. Daniel Cummings at 7 p.m. in the
Hernandez-Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave.
A chapel service will be officiated by Rev. Daniel Cummings at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021. Committal services and interment will follow at the Laredo City Cemetery.
