CARLOS G. GONZALEZ SR. Carlos G. Gonzalez Sr., 77, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at a local hospital. Mr. Gonzalez was born in Zapata, Texas and had been a resident of Laredo for most of his life. Mr. Gonzalez was a graduate of Martin High School in 1954. He then enlisted from 1955-1958 in the U.S. Navy aboard communications ship U.S.S. Estes, as communication and teletype officer. While in South Pacific his ship's battle group participated in historical A-Bomb Detonation on Remote Island. After serving his country he married Rosario Mendiola and had 3 sons. In 1969 he joined Webb County Sheriff's Department as a communication officer and later became certified peace officer. He was in charge of Livestock and Ranch Theft Department. Where he made many good friends with ranching community. One of his best friends was Mr. Joe Finley of Callaghan Ranch, he worked closely with the U.S.D.A. Tick Riders and his compadre Rafael Ramos and all the riders were great friends of his. He also worked frequently with Texas Rangers; Jack Van Cleeve, Stan Guffy, Doyle Holdridge and cattle raiser's Association, Ranger Gilberto (Chick) Saenz. During his career he served under 3 administration; with Sheriff's Porfirin Flores, Mario Santos and Juan Garza until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he became Ranch Foreman at Callaghan Ranch for his friend Mr. Joe Finley and continued his ranching with his 3 son in Zapata County. Mr. Gonzalez was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Rosario "Sherry" M. Gonzalez who passed away on April 16, 1986. Parents, Diodor and Estela Gonzalez. Sister, Maria Elena Gonzalez. He is survived by his sons, Carlos Gonzalez Jr., Rene Gonzalez and Roel (Violeta) Gonzalez. Grandchildren, Sherry Gale Gonzalez, Samantha Gale Gonzalez, Josh Rene Gonzalez and Wesley Gonzalez. Sister, Elena (Joe) Gravenes. Brother-in-Law, Oscar H. (Zulema) Garza. Cousins, Jaime A. (Carmen) Gonzalez, Humberto R. (Rosa, dec'd) Gonzalez Jr. and Jose "Ico" (Maria Elia) Gonzalez all from Zapata, Texas. Also numerous other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
