Carol Pego
Flores
July 28, 2023
Carol Pego-Flores
Carol Pego-Flores entered into eternal rest on July 28, 2023 at home surrounded by
her loving family after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Carol was born in Gueydan, Louisiana on November 10 th , 1945 to Eugenie "Jane"
and Edward Pego but moved to Laredo in 1968 to start a family.
Sweet, friendly, witty, dedicated and feisty are some of the words that come to
mind when describing Carol. She was always sweet and gracious to everyone she
met. She was friendly to a fault, sometimes engaging in conversations with
strangers if she noticed a common interest. She could always make someone laugh
with a quick joke or anecdote. And she could also be feisty, especially when it
came to work. Dedicated best describes her work ethic which she proved by not
having just one but two long term careers with two different companies.
Carol started her first career at Autophone of Laredo as bookkeeper. Not knowing
much Spanish, Paul and Mary Russom gave her the opportunity to work at their
company. A career that proved invaluable to the company and led to lifelong
friendships with her fellow co-workers. Her dedication and feistiness over
managing the company books was legendary. If the balance was off by one penny
she would not stop until she found the mistake.
After 25 years working for Autophone she embarked on a second career with IBC
Bank. Starting in 2003 in the Insurance Department then promoted to the
Executive Offices. She truly enjoyed working at IBC. She was a dedicated
employee and considered everyone there family. She would say hi to everyone as
she walked to her office and cracked a few jokes along the way. Everyone at IBC
loved her for her sense of humor, kindness and sometimes feistiness.
On weekends Carol loved a good football game. Watching the Dallas Cowboys
was requirement on Sundays. Her second love was gardening. The garden
department employees at Lowe's new her by name. Every weekend her and friend
Martha would head over there and come home with a new plant or flower. Her
back yard resembled a botanical garden. Carol also loved spending time with her
friends. She would invite her friends from Autophone go over to her house for
"Old Ladies Night." Her son would cook and she and her sister and friends,
Martha, Lamar, Ana would sit around and reminisce about the "good ole days."
Carol will be missed by so many.
