JOSE CELESTINO DIAZ Jose Celestino Diaz, 93, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015, in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Diaz was born in Laredo, Texas and had been a life long resident. Mr. Diaz was a veteran of the United States Army and served with Battery "A" 382nd Field Artillery Battalion as a Gun Crewman during World War II. He served his term from December 6, 1941 until his Honorary Discharge on 1945. He was decorated with numerous medals during his service, those medals include his Combat Infantryman's Badge in 1944 the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart from the GO 33 Headquarter 80th Infantry Division on February 2, 1945. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa G. Diaz. Parents, Antonio and Petra S. Diaz. Son, Ricardo Diaz. Brothers and sisters. Granddaughter, "Coqui" Estrada He is survived by his children, Bretha Diaz, Jose Antonio Diaz, Guadalupe Diaz and Celestino Diaz Jr. (Barb Diaz). 19 Grandchildren. 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Sister, Josefa D. Mendoza Also surviving him are other relatives and numerous friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Laredo City Cemetery. www.HernandezLopezFH.com
