CONSUELO S. LÓPEZ
Consuelo S. López went home to our eternal Father on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Consuelo was born on January 7, 1935 in Robstown, Texas to Manuel Suarez Blanco and Feliza Arambula Suarez. She attended Bullard Elementary, a segregated school, Wynn Seale Jr. High and Robstown High School, where she was an honor graduate ranked third in her class. Consuelo attended Del Mar Jr. College and while enrolled worked for civil rights leader Dr. Hector P. Garcia, founder of the American G.I. Forum. Consuelo graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin.She began her teaching career in Austin as an instructor for beginning band and string classes at seven elementary schools. Consuelo married Gregorio "Goyo" López, Jr. in 1957 moved to Waco in 1958 and then to Laredo in 1960 where she taught vocal music at Don Tomas Sanchez Elementary for 12 years and then at 14 schools for a total of 40 years. She retired from Laredo ISD in May 1997. Consuelo also taught CCD at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish where she also participated in the church choir for 30 years. In addition, she volunteered for more than 20 years with the Our Lady of Guadalupe School PTO. Consuelo was a founding member of the domestic violence shelter Casa de Misericordia, where she served on the Board of Directors and volunteered for many years. Consuelo was a member of Court St. Mary Magdalene No. 1989 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also involved with the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Tuesday Music and Literature Club, Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Laredo Area Retired School Employees Association (LARSEA).
Consuelo is preceded in death by her parents Manuel Suarez Blanco and Feliza Arambula Suarez as well as her siblings Manuel Suarez, Jr., Lydia S. Silva, Bertha S. Silvas, Delia S. Garcia and Andres Rodriguez along with her niece Feliza S. Suarez and nephews Noe Silva and Mario Garcia.
Consuelo is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gregorio "Goyo" López, Jr. along with her children Armando X. (Mary Lou) López, Stephen M. (Linda) López, Michael J. (Reyna) López, Goyo M. (Blasita) López and Cynthia A. López. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christina (Rick) Greene, Analicia (Will Larson) Sotelo, Mara L. López, Rebecca I. López, Armando M. (Meagan) López, Alejandro X. López, Daniela M. (Mohamed) Mrabti, Olivia López, Marissa López, Gregorio J. López, Isabella A. López, Cecilia M. López, Maya I. López and Blas E. López. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Patrick Henry Greene, VI, Jonah Benjamin Greene, Melina Maldonado, Romina López and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August, 28, 2024 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston. St. Holy Mass of resurrection was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Committal services and interment followed at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
