Obituary

REVEREND DEACON LEONEL SAN MIGUEL

Our Lord called by name his good and faithful servant Reverend Deacon Leonel San Miguel, on Thursday August 29, 2019, surrounded by the love of his life, Irma Alardin San Miguel and family.

He was born on December 5, 1939, to Benito San Miguel and Leonor Dives San Miguel. He was a native Laredoan, attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School, Christian Middle School and graduated from Martin High School Class of 1959. In 1960, he married Irma Alardin San Miguel. He retired from the Tex-Mex Railroad after 38 years of service. In his early twenties he studied to be a barber in San Antonio to then open San Miguel Barber Shop on the corner of Springfield and Montgomery, where he worked after hours and on weekends.

All the while, Rev. Deacon Leonel had a life long and profound relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and the Catholic (Universal) Christian Church, making him an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and servant. He held prayer meetings and Bible studies in his home, lead the Charasmatic movement in Laredo and then entered the deaconate formation under the Diocese of Corpus Christi, traveling weekends to study in Corpus four years, studying theology and was ordained in 1988. For over 4 decades Deacon San Miguel was very active in his parish communities of San Luis Rey, San Martin de Porres, Santa Margarita, and Nuestra Senora Del Rosario. As an ordained Deacon, he married many couples, visited and comforted the sick in local hospitals and homes. The wisdom of the Holy Spirit worked through him in helping many people, and initiated thousands into Christianity through the sacrament of Baptism.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Leonor San Miguel and his brother Benito San Miguel Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Irma Alardin San Miguel, his children, Leonel San Miguel Jr. (Blanca), Raquel L. San Miguel (David) Amaya, Melinda (Ricardo) Martinez, Charlie (Myrna Gabriela) San Miguel, and Rolando (Gabriela) San Miguel; Grandchildren, Arturo (Cristy) Garcia-Perez, Kristina San Miguel, Jessie (Missy) Garcia-Perez, Myrna Gabriela (Juan) Gomez, Ricardo (Gabriela) Martinez, Bianca (Marcos) Gonzalez, Andy Laurel, Carlos (Monica) San Miguel, Roberto (Gaby) San Miguel, Marina Perez, Angelica Martinez, Amalie San Miguel, Julie Anne San Miguel, Mia San Miguel, Aryana San Miguel, Leonel San Miguel III, Rolando San Miguel II, 18 great grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church parishioners.

Deacon San Miguel has competed well, has finished the race and has kept the faith and now the Crown of Righteousness awaits him, which the Lord, the just Judge will award him.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to everyone who helped and assisted during his time of need, especially to Ms. Mari Montero, Ms. Alma Quintero, Altus Hospice staff, Dr. Goldwater and Dr. Idelfonso Flores. The family would also like to thank Monsignor Alex Salazar and Bishop James Tamayo.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 1704 Sandman, Laredo, Texas. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
