Delfina Bedarte went to be with Our Lord on April 26, 2026, passing peacefully in the hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends. A woman of deep faith, Delfina was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Altar Society, where she cherished her time serving on the Flower Arrangement and Membership Committees. The friendships she developed within her church community were a source of great joy, laughter, love and unwavering faith throughout her life.A proud graduate of Raymond and Tirza Martin High School in Laredo, Texas, Delfina married her sweetheart, Jesus Bedarte, shortly after graduation. Though they left their hometown of Laredo for Austin, they eventually settled in Dallas in the 1970s. Delfina went on to earn her degree in History and Spanish from the University of Texas at Dallas.Delfina leaves behind a distinguished professional legacy, having served the Dallas College (formerly DCCCD) community for nearly 40 years. Her dedication was so deeply valued that a tree was planted in her honor outside her office to mark her 20th anniversary. During her tenure at Richland College, she served as the Coordinator of the World Languages Department. She was a passionate advocate for her students, often organizing foreign film screenings to broaden their cultural horizons. Beyond her administrative role, she mentored, tutored, and translated for both individuals and corporations, and she took great pleasure in supporting the Emeritus program. Her leadership extended to Toastmasters, where she served as President and later as District Governor, motivating members to excel in regional competitions. Delfina was widely loved for her flexible nature and her unwavering willingness to help students and colleagues alike.Outside of work, Delfina had a zest for life. She enjoyed theatrical plays, trying new restaurants, and volunteering alongside her sister, Mary. She was a firm believer in the power of small kindnesses, often performing "good deeds" for her banker, mail carrier, and hairstylist. A gifted creator, she was exceptionally skilled at sewing and crocheting, and possessed a legendary "green thumb." Her garden was a sanctuary of colorful rosebushes and sunflowers—planted specifically to care for the bees she so loved. She also shared her home and heart with her beloved dog of 16 years and her many tabby cats. While Delfina did not have children of her own, she poured her love into her siblings and her many nieces and nephews. She cherished her time with her nieces and nephews from the San Antonio area: Annette, Christy, Ida, Lisa, Pat, and Michael. Due to proximity, she particularly helped raise her niece, Samantha Barrientos, and her great nephew, Quentin Compton, both of whom brought her immense happiness. Though she lived in Dallas, she remained a prayerful pillar for her family across the country. Delfina is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesus Bedarte; her parents, Jose Angel Barrientos Jr. and Agustina Barrientos; and her brothers, Macario Barrientos and Jose A. Barrientos III.She is survived by her siblings, Consuelo Cantu, Jesus Barrientos, Mary Barrientos, Rachel Palu, and Patty Kitchens, as well as a large community of aunts, cousins, and nephews in Laredo and San Antonio, Texas; Bakersfield, California; Denver, Colorado; Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Nebraska.Delfina Bedarte, you will forever live in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
