ENDELIA G. CANALES Endelia G. Canales (b: February 28, 1920; d: January 4, 2015) Endelia G. Canales lost the love of her life, Adolfo Cosme AC' Canales at the age of 47, and 47 years later they are reunited in heaven. Ende, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who unselfishly dedicated her life to her family and volunteer work and having been a tennis champ in high school, was also a passionate follower of tennis, especially Pete Sampras. She had a gentle, caring and fun-loving personality, a radiant contagious smile that lit up a room, and a philosophy on life guided by "dichos", e.g., Dime con quién andas y te diré quien eres, No hay mal que por bien no venga, and Cada chango con su mecate! Upon graduating from high school and working in Alice, San Diego, and Corpus Christi, Texas, Ende settled in Laredo, Texas with AC in 1949 and worked initially at El Sol del Oriente and then the City of Laredo Waterworks Department until she retired in 1979 to care for her grandson, Adolfo and subsequently, her granddaughter, Ileana. After they started school, she became an active member and officer of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary Association and was elected as its President on two separate occasions. She could be found pushing the coffee cart up and down the hospital hallways to appreciative family members and in her later years became a fixture at the information desk directing callers and visitors to loved ones. Ende was also active with the Catholic Daughters of Blessed Sacrament Church where she was a parishioner until she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 2007 to live with her daughter. Endelia G. Canales was born in Benavides, Texas to Isaac Gonzalez and Conrada Trevino Gonzalez on February 28, 1920. She was preceded in death by her son, Jose Ignacio Canales; sisters and brothers, Valeriana (Jose) Casas, Estela (Julio) Benavides, Jose Maria Gonzalez, Catarina (Manuel) Espinoza, Ester (Manuel) Carrillo, Jose Lubin (Hilda) Gonzalez, Isaac (Marie) Gonzalez, Aminta (Manuel Jesus) Garcia, and Lucila (Conrado) Solis. She is survived by her loving son, Joe Ed Canales (Blanca Madrigal) and adoring daughter, JoAnn Canales, PhD; wonderful grandchildren, Adolfo Eduardo (Dennise A.) and Ileana Yvette Canales; adorable grandchild, Miguel Adolfo Canales; sister, Conrada (Eduardo Manuel) Lopez, sister-in-law, Hilda Gonzalez and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very dear and loving friends, as well as "running buddies", Margarita Margie' Barrientos and Lucila Luci' Saenz Adame. The family wishes to express the deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Cimarron Place in Corpus Christi, Texas and the Hernandez-Lopez Funeral Home for their dedication and caring and loving attention to their precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Special thanks to the warm and caring attention of Senior Companions, Juanita de la Fuente, Luci Valdez, Viola Haynes, Mary Villanueva, Helen Waytovich, Carol Wooldridge, Marie and her hairdresser Ana, Owner of Mima's Beauty Salon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the AC and Ende Canales Si Se Puede Scholarship at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas, a scholarship established in honor of their parents/grandparents--AC and Ende Canales. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 4 to 9 p.m. a Rosary by Catholic Daughters of Isabella Court 683 will be held at 5 p.m. followed by a Vigil of the Deceased at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons East Chapel, 4500 Thomas Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015 departing from the funeral home chapel.
