Esperanza Rocha, age 81, of Laredo, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2026.

As family and friends mourn her death, they also honor the lasting presence of her life and the place she held in the hearts of others.

Born on May 29, 1945, in Laredo, Texas, to Natalia and Francisco Bautista, she was their treasured only child. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who raised her only daughter with unwavering love, patience, and strength while contributing tremendously to her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives.

Her life spanned more than eight decades, and her memory will be held with affection and respect by those who knew and loved her. Esperanza’s name itself speaks of hope, and in her passing that hope endures in remembrance, in love, and in the quiet gratitude of a life that will not be forgotten.

Those who knew her will remember her warm laugh, her amazing Thanksgiving meals, her love for watching her eldest great-grandson play sports, and her fierce protectiveness of her little family.

She worked for many years at McClellan’s in both Laredo and Albuquerque, New Mexico; at the MGM Grand and Circus Circus in Las Vegas; and retired from the Laredo Housing Authority. Even after retirement, Esperanza’s resilience and determination led her to work part-time briefly at Family Dollar in Laredo, Texas.

She loved gardening, dancing, family gatherings, watching cooking shows, traveling with her eldest granddaughter, riding around town with her neighbor best friend, and making anyone feel welcome in her presence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Natalia G. Bautista and Francisco Bautista. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Rocha-Valdez; grandchildren Bianca Montemayor (Victor Tijerina III), Jerry Valdez III (LeAnn Cuellar), and Natalie Marie Valdez (Roberto De La Rosa); and great-grandchildren Devin Jace Martinez, Jerry Valdez IV, Lily Everly Valdez, Elsa Avery Valdez, Aitanna Zaidé De La Rosa, and Ares Amir De La Rosa. Also surviving her are many friends and relatives.

As family and friends mourn her death, they also honor the lasting presence of her life and the place she held in the hearts of others. May her memory bring comfort to all who grieve her, and may she rest in peace.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, located at 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. A Vigil of the Deceased and Rosary will be officiated at 7:00 p.m. that evening in the funeral home chapel. Committal Services will be held at a later date.
