FORTUNATO "SHORTY" BERNAL JR.

Our Beloved Fortunato "Shorty" Bernal Jr., age 81, of Austin, Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

He was born on December 23, 1937 in Laredo, Texas. Fortunato worked as a Foreman/Operator at H&H Construction and retired after 45 yrs. of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fortunato Sr. and Felicita Bernal; beloved wife, Maria de Jesus Collazo Bernal; sister, San Juana Tellez; and brothers, Justino Bernal Sr. and Margarito Bernal.

He is survived by his wife, of 31 years, Genara Contreras Bernal; his children, Jose Alberto Bernal (Mary), Maria Felicitas Bernal Rodriguez (Juan), Sylvia Casarez (Steve), Rogelio Bernal (Rhonda), Johnny Bernal (Susan), Jose Bernal (Jennifer), and Fortunato Bernal III (Jessica); step-children: Felipe, Gerardo, Pedro and Leticia Contreras; 15 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Hernandez-Lopez & Sons Northside Chapels; 800 Boston Street; Laredo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1718 San Jorge Ave; Laredo, TX 78040. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
