MR. FRUCTUOSO SAN MIGUEL JR. Mr. Fructuoso San Miguel Jr., 78, was called unto th epresence of the Lord on Monday, October 31, 2011 in Laredo, Texas. Mr. San Miguel was born and raised in Laredo and was a former San Augustine School student. He served in the United States Army, defending our country the Korean War. He was highly decorated and honored with the following medals and awards: Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army NCO Professional Ribbon, Texas National Guard Medal with one bronze star and the United States Reserve Achievement Medal. Upon returing from Korea in 1954, he joined the Texas National Guard, 141st, Inf. RGT for three years. On January, 1958, he then trasferred to the 37th Armor, based at Fort McIntosh in Laredo. He retired from th e850th Ord. Co. in 1983.. Mr. San Miguel was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 9194, past District 26th Commander 85-86, and D.A.V. Chapter 76th member. Furthermore, he became a member at K.C. Council #2304 and of the American Legion, Post 59. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fuctuoso San Miguel Sr. and Andrea Herrera San Miguel, baby daughter Rita, his brother Sixto San Miguel, nephew Ricardo San Miguel and brother-in-law CesarGutierrez. He is survived by his beloved wife , Socorro Garza San Miguel, and loving Children; Sergio (Mercedes) San Miguel, Fructuoso (Claudia) San Miguel III, Eduardo San Miguel, Teresa (Pete) Canut of San Antonio, Texas, Oscar San Miguel, Alberto (Patricia) San Miguel and Andrea San Miguel. Also surviving him are (13) thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, sisters Elena (Cesar +) Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas, Andrea Alaniz of Laredo, Texas, Idolinda (Andrew) Smith of Arizona, Irene Sepulveda of Laredo, Texas, sister-in-law Diana San Miguel. and numerous nieces and nephews, several other family members and many friends. He will be dearly and greatly missed by all his family members and his many, many friends who love him. He will be remembered for his patriotism and love for his country and for being a resposible and dedicated civic worker. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at San Agustin Cathedral. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Laredo City Cemetery.
