Obituary

GUADALUPE E. BAZALDUA

Our loving mother Guadalupe E. Bazaldúa, 97, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 18, 2024 surrounded by her daughters at her side.

She was born to the late Jesús María Espinosa and Avelina Vidaurri on August 10, 1927 at Santa Rosa Ranch, South Laredo, Texas. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and attended the University of the Incarnate Word achieving a Bachelors Degree in Education and later finished her Masters in Bilingual Education at Laredo A&I University.

In Laredo she began teaching at Ursuline Academy, later moving to Leyendecker Elementary with Laredo I.S.D. until she retired in 1994. She did volunteer work for her parish at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church where she taught children religious studies after school, was a Eucharistic Minister and worked in the community praying the rosary to those in need. She was Coordinator of Religious Education at Mother Cabrini and was in charge of the food bank until 2015.

Guadalupe would meet her future husband Ricardo Bazaldúa while both were university students. They were married in 1955 and had four daughters; Selma Patricia, Maria de Lourdes, Adriana Yolanda and Imelda Ana. They loved to dance and would be married 42 years. They would be blessed with eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by Ricardo Bazaldúa (husband,) Selma (daughter,) and Daryl Weller (son-in-law.)

She is survived by her children; Maria de Lourdes (Leo) Nuncio, Adriana Yolanda (Richard) Weller Woodward, and Imelda Ana (Randy) Robles. Eight grandchildren; Matthew, Judy, Daniel, Anthony, Catherine (Katy,) Mekel, Jobim, and Gilberto.

She is the last of 12 siblings born to Jesús and Avelina Espinosa.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the following people: Isabel Zepeda of Peaceful Personal Care, Kristen Valverde and Chaplain Robbie of Bristol Hospice, and her good friend Olivia Aranda.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. Holy Mass was celebrated at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. Committal services and interment followed at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

PALLBEARERS WERE: Mekel Zapico, Jobim Zapico, Matthew Weller, Anthony Weller, Gilbert Robles, Randy Robles, Leo Nuncio and Richard Woodward.
