Obituary

GUADALUPE R. GONZALEZ

Our father Guadalupe Roberto Gonzalez was called by Our Lord to join him in heaven on Thursday January 27, 2022, at the age of eighty-six (86). Our father will be mourned by his extensive family, friends and community.

Our father was an incredible man who had a great sense of humor, was an amazing conversationalist, an avid news reader and had incredible wisdom. Born in Laredo, Texas to Taurino R. Gonzalez and Adela M. Gonzalez he was one of four (4) children. He was raised in Laredo and was an alum of the Mighty Martin Tigers. He went on to join the National Guard in the 50's-60's. Once he completed his service, he ran and managed Laredo Steam Laundry Substation on San Bernardo Street. He went on to work for Laredo Sisters of Mercy Hospital for 27 years.

Our father was a baseball and football fanatic. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He had a love for sports overall which included him being an American Little League Coach. He was also a man of God and a devoted Guadalupano at San Luis Rey Church.

He had many interests but our father was a devoted family man. Our father met the love of his life Petra L. Gonzalez in 1956 and they were married in 1957. The vows they accepted on that day was the start of an amazing sixty-four-year journey throughout life that was marked with happiness and joy, especially in receiving the six (6) children that were born to their marriage.

Up to his last days of his quick departure from this world, we found peace in him letting us know he was ready to join our lord in heaven. We will miss the time we spent with him watching sports, enjoying his favorite restaurants or just walking the mall.

He was preceded in death by his parents Taurino and Adela M. Gonzalez, his brother Oscar T. Gonzalez, his sister Alicia G. Pena, and great-grandson Michael Steven Speer Jr.

Left to honor and cherish his memory is his life long partner Petra L. Gonzalez; his brother Ricardo (Santiaga) Gonzalez; his brother-in-law Ricardo Pena; his children Roberto G. Gonzalez, Anita (Juan) Hernandez, Juan (Maria Pilar) Gonzalez, Bertha Alicia Gonzalez, Reynaldo (Diana Espinoza) Gonzalez, Maria del Carmen (Ray Aguilar) Gonzalez; and many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Reynaldo Gonzalez, Juan Gonzalez, Michael Speer, Jose Manuel Martinez III, Juan Hernandez, Ray Aguilar, Juan Jose Hernandez Jr., and Alexis Julian Gonzalez.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for our father during his final days, the great hospice workers at Altus Hospice, Father Joe Cadena from Christ the King Church, and the many family members that donated to his services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the funeral service professionals at Hernandez, Lopez and Sons.
