Obituary

GUADALUPE "LUPE" MEDINA

Guadalupe, "Lupe," Medina of Laredo, Texas, an extraordinary and deeply adored husband, father, brother, and friend died Wednesday morning at his home after battling cancer for five years. He was 79.

Guadalupe was a devout Catholic and member of the St. Patrick's Church family. He lovingly served as Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. He was also active in the Men's Club and elected to the Pastoral council.   Before his illness, he celebrated daily mass and was instrumental in bringing the ACTS movement to Laredo and consequently the Perpetual Adoration Chapel to St. Patrick's Church.   With his friendly demeanor, radiant smile and genuine warmth and compassion, Lupe welcomed many to daily mass. His impact within his church community is reflected in the hundreds of messages, countless prayers, and overwhelming outpouring of love and support throughout his illness.

Before his illness, Lupe enjoyed traveling the world with his wife of 52 years, Alicia.   Together, they forged many close friendships through their travels. Alicia devoted herself to his care throughout his illness.

Survivors include his loving children, Gerardo Medina, Cynthia (Fernando) de Llano, Cristina (Roberto) Mendiola and Manuel Lopez; his grandchildren, Alessandra Mendiola, Mia de Llano, and Esteban Mendiola.

Other survivors include his devoted sisters Gloria Ramirez, Juanita (Jose) Gonzalez and brothers Ramon, Domingo and Reyes Medina.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Andrew Brenner, Ofelia Romero, Stephanie Hodges, Pat O'Rourke and the many other physicians and nurses at the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The family would also like to thank Lupe's ACTS Brothers and Sisters for their unceasing prayers, constant faith and enduring love over the years.
