Obituary

Guillermo "Willie" G. del Barrio, 78 passed away on May 2, 2023. He is preceded in death by his brother Felix III and his brother in law Henry Campbell (Norma). Also preceded in death by his parents Felix del Barrio, Jr. and Lucia O. del Barrio.

Willie, as he was known to most, was born in Laredo, Texas on June 17, 1944. He graduated from Martin High School in 1962. He was a proud Veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force. After his service, he attended and graduated with his BBA from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. After brief stints working for the IRS and Defense Contracting Audit Agency, he went to work with the Office of Regulatory Audit, Customs & Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security as an auditor in Houston, Texas. In 1985, he and his family moved back to his hometown of Laredo, Texas upon being voluntarily transferred with his job. After a brief return to Houston, Texas from 1987 to 1988 he and his family permanently moved back to Laredo in the summer of 1988. In 1992 he was promoted to Branch Chief (later the title changed to Assistant Field Director). As the AFD of the Laredo Branch, Houston Field Office, he managed a staff of 14 auditors located in Laredo and McAllen until his retirement in 2006.

Willie is survived by his loving wife, Carmen, of 50 years. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary earlier this year on March 30, 2023. Willie was extremely proud of his family. All of his children and grandchildren were very close to him. Surviving him are his daughter Angela M. Gamez (Jose P. III) and his three sons Guillermo "Memo" G del Barrio, Jr. (Dora "Kelly"), Gerardo "Jerry" V. del Barrio (Adriana), and Carlos A. del Barrio. His nine grandchildren: Sofia I. Gamez, Jose "Joey" D. Gamez, Guillermo "Trey" G. del Barrio, III, Gabriella G. del Barrio, Gia G. del Barrio, Chelsea del Barrio, Keanu, del Barrio, Xena del Barrio, and Zelda del Barrio. He is also survived by his siblings Adelaida Gloria Lesniski , Norma Campbell (Henry), Oscar del Barrio, Luis del Barrio (Sue) and Nora Stewart (Jaime).

Funeral services were held on Monday, May, 8, 2023 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. A  Rosary and Liturgy of the Word were officiated by Rev. Deacon Leonardo Aguillon in the funeral home chapel before a funeral procession which departed immediately following the services. Committal services and interment followed in the Laredo City Cemetery-Veteran's Section with presentation of the United States Flag and full Military Honors provided by the Laredo Veteran's Honor Guard.

PALLBEARERS WERE: Guillermo G. del Barrio Jr., Gerardo V. del Barrio, Carlos A. del Barrio, Jose P. Gamez III, Jose D. Gamez and Luis del Barrio.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE: Guillermo G. del Barrio III and Keanu del Barrio.
