HOMER EARL BATEY
Dr. Earl Batey of Laredo succumbed peacefully to his eternal rest on January 7, 2023.
Dr. Batey, son of Lee and Leona Batey, was born on December 25, 1934, in rural Milam County, Texas. He was raised in Austin and graduated from Travis High School.
His calling to the ministry, early in his life, led him to fulfill his dedication after graduating from Baylor University and concluding his preparation at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His twenty-seven year career as pastor was served in churches in Martin Springs, Riley Springs, Corsicana, Coolidge, Port Bolivar and Genoa. Retiring from this pastoral service, he later worked as a teacher in Laredo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert (Helen) and Hugh (Verna).

He is survived by his wife, Maria Diana Martinez Batey, son, Jon (Sandy), grandson, Paul (Beth), great granddaughters, Sydney, Heather, Catherine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a religious service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave . Funeral services will begin departing the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023. A religious service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 7610 N. Bartlett. Committal services and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
