JON DEE LAWRENCE 10/05/1935 - 07/13/2012 Jon Dee Lawrence passed away peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the age of 76. Mr. Lawrence was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, on October 5, 1935, but grew up in the Rio Grande Valley. He attended Edinburg High School as well as Pan American University, becoming the first honors graduate of Pan American in 1956. He then went on to the University of Texas Law School, earning a J.D. in 1960. That same year, he scored the highest grade recorded, up to that time, on the State Bar Exam. After serving in the U.S. Army and Reserves, he embarked on a distinguished legal career. Most of his career was spent with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he retired after 25 years as Vice President and General Counsel in 1991. He met his loving wife, Rolinda, at the University of Texas in 1958, where they both sang in the University Christian Church choir. His son, Craig, was born in Weslaco, Texas in 1965, and his daughter, Kathy, was born in Houston, Texas in 1968. Because of his position with Southwestern Bell, the family travelled extensively, and they lived in many major metropolitan areas of Texas, Arkansas and Missouri. After several years of retirement in Austin, he moved with his wife and daughter to join his son, Craig, in Laredo in 2004, and made it their home. He enjoyed his 25 year retirement remaining active in such diverse activities as serving as National Board President of Camp Fire, Inc., Head of Delegation for his daughter's Special Olympics team, President of the Pan American University Foundation, Trustee and Choir Member of the First United Methodist Church and Amigos Duplicate Bridge Club. On June 30 of this year, Jon Dee and Rolinda celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage surrounded by his friends and family in Laredo. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Laredo, located on 1220 McClelland Ave. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Information with regard to the funeral services may be obtained by calling (956) 723-2979 or for outside of Laredo 1-800-232-7907.
