JOSE "PEPE" COMPEAN
Mr. Compean, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, in Laredo, Texas.
Jose Compean, born to Modesto Compean and Trinidad Moreno de Compean on November 24, 1924, in Laredo, Texas.
He attended Macdonell Elementary, Christen Jr. High and Martin High School. Mr. Compean was a professional musician who played the trumpet with the Mike Ornelas Orchestra, Beto Villa Orchestra and the Isidro Lopez Orchestra, in Detroit Michigan. While in Detroit, he received draft papers from Uncle Sam. He reported for his physical exam in that city. He came back to Laredo to be with his family before reporting for duty at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas, where he was inducted into the U.S. Armed Forces. He received his basic training at Sheppard Field, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Afterwards, he was sent to Radio Communication School in Sioux Falls , South Dakota and after completion, he went to Mitchell Field, in New York City. Finally, he was sent to the Burma India Theater (War Zone), where he remained until January 1946, when he was honorably discharged. In the time he was in India, he played with an orchestra on weekend leave. In 1947, he returned to Martin High School and received his diploma, in May of that year. He married Gloria Flores and in 1947. In 1948 he attended Laredo Jr. College on the G.I. Bill of Rights, where he received an associates degree in Radio Communications. He then started touring with the Beto Villa Orchestra through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. He later joined the Civil Service and worked at the Laredo Air Force Base, until it closed. Then he began touring with the Isidro Lopez Orchestra until 1966. After the base closure in Laredo, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and worked as a Communications Engineer at the U. S. Naval Air Station, and remained there until transferring to the U. S. Border Patrol, also in Communications , and retired as such in 1993. After his retirement, Mr. Compean worked for his son, Dr. Rene Compean for numerous years. He and his wife were very active parishioners at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in Laredo and St. Patrick Catholic Church for the remainder of his life. Mr. Compean was also a member of the Laredo American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria Flores Compean.

Sons, Jose D. Compean and Mario Alberto Compean.
Grandson, Eric Compean.
He is survived by his children, Javier M. (Gloria) Compean and Dr. Rene R. (Maria Aleyda) Compean.
Daughters-in-Law, Stella Compean and Ruth Compean.
Grandchildren, Jose David (Maribel) Compean, PHD, Dr. Jessica (Alfonso) Fierro, Jason Compean, Margie(Daniel) Elizondo, Melissa (Andres) Ysaguirre, Javier G. (Linda) Compean, Kimberly Renee (Cynthia) Compean, Kristina (Mark) Tijerina, Klarissa Compean, Kassandra Compean and Rene R. Compean II.
Great-Grandchildren, Leah Compean, Emma Fierro, Sebastian Fierro, Eric Compean Jr., Emily Compean, Anjolie Love Compean, Christopher Jaydon Compean, Gloria Derleen Compean,Marcos Elizondo, Ruben Elizondo, Jacob Compean, Isabella Compean, Nicholas Compean, Jacky Tijerina, Katelyn Tijerina, Derek Tijerina and Mark Tijerina.
Also surviving him are numerous other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 with Holy Mass to follow. All services will be held at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
