Obituary

JOSE R. GOMEZ

Jose R. Gomez, 88, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his local residence.

Mr. Gomez was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas Mexico but had been a lifelong resident of Laredo. During his lifetime, he worked as a Bus Driver for Nuevo Laredo and then came to work with Laredo Independent School District as a School Bus Driver in 2001 and for over 16 years he provided  service to the Laredo Youth. He then retired from the school district and spent time with his family and loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed his favorite pastime which was listening to music, musica norteña and watching his favorite baseball  team " Los Tecolotes". He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Jerry Garay and by his parents Jose Guadalupe Gomez-Peña and Elvira Reyes Gomez.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years, Maria C. Garay.

He is also survived by his numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren,  numerous other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. A Religious Service will be officiated at 7:00 p.m. by Pastora Luz Garay in the funeral home Chapel. Committal services and interment will be held at a later date.

Pallbearers were: Ronald Hernandez, Luis Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Jose Garay, Byaran Medina, Ricardo Garay, Riqui Garay and Carlos Torres.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave.

José R. Gómez, de 88 años, falleció el jueves 26 de diciembre de 2024 en su residencia local.

El Sr. Gómez nació en Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México, pero había residido en Laredo toda su vida. Durante su vida, trabajó como conductor de autobús para Nuevo Laredo y luego vino a trabajar con el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Laredo como conductor de autobús escolar en 2001 y durante más de 16 años brindó servicio a los jóvenes de Laredo. Luego se retiró del distrito escolar y pasó tiempo con su familia y sus seres queridos, especialmente sus nietos. Disfrutaba de su pasatiempo favorito que era escuchar música, música norteña y ver a su equipo de béisbol favorito "Los Tecolotes". Su familia y amigos lo extrañarán.

Le precedieron en la muerte su nieto, Jerry Garay y sus padres José Guadalupe Gómez-Peña y Elvira Reyes Gómez.

Le sobrevive su amada esposa durante más de 44 años, María C. Garay.

También le sobreviven sus numerosos hijos, nietos, bisnietos, tataranietos, muchos otros familiares y muchos amigos.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el viernes 3 de enero de 2025 de 4:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. en las Capillas Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside, 800 Boston St. y San Bernardo Ave. Se oficiará un servicio religioso a las 7:00 p.m. por la Pastora Luz Garay en la Capilla de la funeraria. Los servicios de sepelio y el entierro se llevarán a cabo en una fecha posterior.

Los portadores del féretro seran Ronald Hernandez, Luis Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Jose Garay, Byaran Medina, Ricardo Garay, Riqui Garay and Carlos Torres.

Los arreglos funerarios están bajo la dirección de Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. y San Bernardo Ave.
