JOSE CARDENAS SR.

September 01, 1943 - March 31, 2023

Jose Cardenas, 79, of Laredo, TX. passed away, March 31, 2023, surrounded by family.
Jose, or fondly known as "Pepe" to some, was born to Carlota and Jose Cardenas. While little of his early
childhood is known, it is the indelible mark he left on his friends and family that remains. From an early
age, Jose was recognized for his devotion to being a hard worker. Notably, he worked for Herring – Price
Lumber Company, Alamo Express and for the Webb County Road and Bridge. His co-workers fondly
remember him as always having a strong work ethic and his love of music. He would spend hours
recording music off the radio when relaxing at home to help him pass the time during his work hours. He
was a loving husband and a wonderful father to his two children.
His first wife, Isabel Y. Cardenas, preceded Jose in death. He is survived by his wife, Petra Deliz Cardenas,
his daughter, Patricia R. Cardenas and his son Jose (Laura) Cardenas. He is also survived by nieces,
nephews and grand nephews who will always cherish his loving memory.
The Cardenas' family would like to extend their heart felt gratitude to his nieces, Violeta "Chacha"
Polendo, Patricia "Paty" E. Rodriguez and Araceli Viera, who were instrumental during some of the most
trying times in Jose's life. To the LMC doctors, nurses, CNA's and all those who attended to Jose in those
last weeks of his life, his family would like to say thank you for caring for him as if he was one of your
own. Finally, the family owes an enormous debt of gratitude to his health care giver, Ivonne Mendiola
and the Friendly Care agency for being there to help and assist the family.
While difficult to condense Jose's life into a short paragraph, what those who knew him will take with
them is his generosity and kindness. As news of his passing spread, the people who reached out to his
family would generally remark about his easy disposition and warmth. His family and friends will truly
miss him.
Funeral services for Jose will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Visitation hours will be held from 5-9 pm. with a rosary officiated by Rev. Deacon Miguel Vallarta at 7 pm. at Hernandez-Lopez & Sons Funeral Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. Committal services to be held at a later date.
