JUAN FRANCISCO CARDENAS
Juan Francisco "Frank"Cardenas, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 5th 2021 in Laredo, Texas. Frank graduated from Martin High School, in 1954 and was a member of the ROTC. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 3 years of active duty and was honorably discharged. He served 5 more years in the Ready Reserve Corps. In 1957, he married Irma De La Garza and soon afterward, in November 1958, he began working with the Laredo Fire Department. Among his many talents, he was an Arson Investigator, a Firefighter Instructor, at the Texas A&M Fire Training Academy, a licensed Texas Peace Officer, as well as an instructor, in the Laredo Firefighter Training School. He had a long and successful career achieving the rank of Fire Marshall, in the Laredo Fire Department. He retired, after 44 years of service, to the City of Laredo. His extraordinary accomplishments are imprinted in the department's legacy and his feats will be long remembered.
But his greatest attributes was being a wonderful father to his children and grandchildren, as well as a father figure to many.
Mr. Cardenas was born in Laredo, Texas and had been a lifelong resident.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Doda Cardenas.
Brother, Alberto P. (Maria de la Luz) Cardenas.
Sisters, Guadalupe (Jose) Bazan and Magdalena Cardenas.
Son-in-law, Richard Kaiser.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years of marriage, Irma G. Cardenas.
Children, Elizabeth C. Kaiser, Juan Francisco (Liza) Cardenas Jr. and Cynthia (Fernando) Sotelo.
Grandchildren, Belinda L. Sotelo, Fernando J. Sotelo Jr., David Cardenas, Richard F. Kaiser and Jonathan A. Kaiser.
Also surviving him are other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the
Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo St.
Funeral services will begin departing the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
