Fernando was born October 4, 1948 in Laredo, Texas. He holds a Bachelors in Computer Science from Lamar University in 1979, and an MBA in Finance from Houston Baptist University in 1994. He moved to Port Arthur in 1974 to work at the local shipyard. He then moved to Houston in 1980 to work at an insurance company, after that he was a contract worker for NASA. His most notable job working at Chase Bank as the VP in the Loan Department for 13 years. He retired in 2001 in dedicated to his son.

He enjoyed watching mysteries on PBS, playing Minecraft, and was constantly learning something new. He had the warmest smile, goofiest laugh, and a humble presence.

He always wanted to provide for those he cared about. He was tough on his whole family, but he did so to prepare them for the day he left. He was a Jack Of All Trades and wanted to pass down his expansive knowledge to his family.

He is survived by his wife Myrna Mendiola and his son John Mendiola.

Fernando lost his fight with colorectal and bladder cancer, and said goodbye on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 12:43. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 4, at 5:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089.

Funeral services were held at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 departing the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Committal services followed at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
