Obituary

JUAN P. GUEVARA


Juan P. Guevara, 93, passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2023 in Laredo.

He was born on June 24, 1930 to Manuel M. Guevara and Virginia Guevara in Laredo, Texas where he was a resident all his life.

He was a graduate of San Agustin High School and after graduation he enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict  He was inducted on March 22,1951 in Fort Hood,  and he served  as an Artillery crew member with "B" Battery, 91st Anti-Aircraft Artillery and Air Warfare Battalion. He was decorated with the Army Occ (Officer Candidate Course) Medal . He performed duties as a Emergency Relief Coordinator and was later Honorably discharged on March  12,1953.

After his tour of duty, He married Leonor Ballesteros on April 24, 1955, and together they had six children, Juan Jose Guevara, Raul Alberto Guevara, Diana Alicia Guevara-Vidaurri, Roberto Antonio Guevara, Anna Maria Guevara-Ali, and Virginia Patricia Guevara.

He retired from the city transit system now known as El Metro after 43 years of dedicated service to the Public.

He was a proud Alumni of San Agustin High School, a member of The Knights of Columbus Council 2304 for 50 years, and a proud supporter of the Laredo Humane society and American Legion Post 59.

Juan is survived by his children Raul, Diana (Juan J. Vidaurri), Robert, and Virginia Patricia. His Grandchildren, Sara A. Guevara-Arriaga(Roy Arriaga), Stephanie Alexis Green (Nicholas), Marcos Antonio Guevara "Tony", Adriana Fielden (Shea), Victor Vidaurri (Sara), Deryk Guevara (Meagan), Megan Guevara, Brandy Guevara, Hamid John Ali, Leonor M. Ali-Lu (Bruce), Ashley A. Ali, Andrew N. Ali, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Manuel and Virginia Guevara, his wife, Leonor B. Guevara, His siblings Catarina Guevara, and David Guevara, and his children Juan Jose Guevara and Anna M. Guevara-Ali

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 15, 2023 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave. Holy Mass was held at Christ the King Catholic Church before committal services and interment which followed at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

PALLBEARERS WERE: Raul A. Guevara, Robert A. Guevara, Juan J. Vidaurri, Roy Arriaga, Deryk Guevara and Hamid John Ali.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Mumtaz Ali, Roy Arriaga Jr., Kobe Arriaga, Tony Guevara, Andrew N. Ali, Victor Vidaurri, Shea Fielden and Manuel Guevara.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Funeral Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave.
