Obituary

JUAN R. RAMOS SR. Juan (John) Ramos, age 62, a gentleman whose smile could brighten any room, departed this Earth on May 6, 2013 and has now been greeted by our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Juan Ramos was born on August 30, 1950 in Laredo, Texas to Amalia and Bernardino Ramos (also deceased). He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ophelia Gil Ramos of Houston, his children, Juan Jr., (Anabelle), Veronica Denise Mata (Marco Castillo), and step-son Rick (Holly) Gil, grandchildren, Abby and Coby Mata, Alegra and Diego Ramos, Kayla Castillo and Luca Gil. Also surviving Juan, are his siblings, Ramiro (Delia) Ramos, Jose (Sabina) Ramos and Guadalupe and Guadalupe Ramos. Brother-in-Law, Ramon Mendez. Sister-in-Law, Minerva Ramos. He is preceded in death by his sister, Vicenta (Ramon) Mendez and brother, Marcelino (Mine) Ramos. Juan spent most of his life in retail sales and was consummate salesman with an expertise in fine jewelry and watches. He received many awards for his salesman ship abilities. His career in sales covered the range of products from shoes, to jewelry and watches, to automobile, to delicatessen food products and furniture. Juan could sell anything because he was honest as the day is long. He was a man of integrity and his customers were assured that what he told them was true. He was a "people person," and would drop everything to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful entertainer, enchanting people with his stories and jokes. His friends and family recall him as a beloved man, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Juan had the uncanny ability to be able to memorize numbers and recall them years later. In Juan's early years he attended Christen Junior High and Martin High School (Laredo), graduating in 1970. He also attended Laredo Junior College. In 1983 he relocated to San Antonio and the years following moved to Bay City, Texas then finally Houston, Texas in 1990. It was here while visiting old friends and former co-workers where he met the love of his life Ophelia Gil. Juan and Ophelia became parents of their beloved cat Bandit. "Bandy" may have begun his life as a stray, but he lived the rest of his days with them sharing holidays and photos with the couple, who loved him dearly. Bandit passed over last year, and no doubt was waiting for his beloved "stepfather." His wife and children would like to thank Florita and Mike Dumont, his dear friends from Houston, who loved him and were with him until his last days. Juan may have left Laredo, but Laredo never left him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 departing from the funeral home chapel.
