Obituary

Julia Ramirez January 28, 1930 to October 18, 2012 Julia Ramirez or "Hula" as she was known by her family, has gone to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the young age 82. Ms. Ramirez was born and raised in Cactus, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Santiago and Margarita Ramirez her family then moved to Laredo where she grew up. Upon completing her education she worked at the Laredo Air force Base for some years she then got transferred to Corpus Christi and worked at the Air force Base there. After a couple of years in Corpus, she returned to Laredo after some training and in 1973 she became employed as an inspector for the U.S. Customs Service for many years up until her retirement in 1983. The years following her retirement she devoted to family and friends. She enjoyed life and dedicated her time volunteering at Laredo Medical Center for many years. She was involved with the Charismatic movement with her parish Mother Cabrini Church and then San Luis Rey when she moved. She is preceded in death by her parents Santiago Ramirez and Margarita Lugo Ramirez, by her sisters Melitona "Mely" Vela, Ramona "Mona" Ramirez Martinez and by her brother Domingo Garza and by her cousin Alejandro Ramirez. She is survived by her brother Galo (Maria Luisa+) Ramirez. Her nieces and nephews; Gerardo Martinez, Veronica (Alvino) Garcia and Griselda F. Martinez, Xavier Vela, Melissa Julia Juarez, Gabriela Ramirez, Rene Ramirez and Luis Adrian Ramirez. and her grand nephew which she raised Alejandro "Alex" Garcia. Grandnephews and grandnieces, Tiffany Nicole Garcia, Alfredo Martinez, Sara Alicia Martinez and A.J. Juarez. Also surviving her are numerous other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin Monday morning, October 22, 2012 departing the funeral home at 8 a.m. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Committal services will be held at a later date.
