LEONEL CANALES
Leonel Canales, of Laredo, Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 71, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
He was born on December 29, 1944.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Evaristo and Maria De Jesus (Ramirez) Canales and Brother in Law, Rodolfo Vela.
Leonel is survived by his loving wife, of 50 years , Elia Zapata Canales and his two daughters, Melissa (Mathew) Stedman and Christina (Raul) Barberena.
Grandchildren, Christopher Stedman, Audrey Stedman, Megan Stedman, Emma Barberena and Juaquin Barberena.
His siblings, Juanita Vela and Evaristo (Elia) Canales.
Also surviving him are numerous nephews and nieces.
Leonel (Leo) will best be remembered for his dedication to the Adult and Youth Cursillo, as well as his commitment to the Sisters of the Community of St. John. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick's Church, and was a member of ACTS community.
He shared his passion for hunting and fishing with family and friends.
The family extends a special, heartfelt Thank You to the St. Jude Specialty Home and Health Care Services Inc. for their exceptional and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of the Community of St. John (504 Century Dr. South, Laredo, TX 78046) and Casa Misericordia (1000 Mier St., Laredo, TX 78040)
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the
Hernandez-Lopez and Sons East Chapel, 4500 Thomas Ave.
A service by the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be held at 6 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased, officiated by Rev. Father Bill Davis, will be held at 7 p.m. A Rosary will be recited by the Adult Cursillo at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
