Luis Alberto
Lopez
July 25, 2024
Luis Alberto Lopez, 89, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024 in Laredo, Texas.
Born in Laredo, he went to St. Peters Catholic School for his elementary grades, then graduated from high school from St. Joseph's Academy in 1954. He spent his first summer out of high school working for a family in Wamsutter Wyoming, a job he obtained from the local priest that was a friend of the family. Upon returning to Laredo, he was employed at Sears Roebuck store in Sept 1954 and continued working with them for 40 years, starting out as a salesman and eventually working up to store manager. His work transferred him and his family several times throughout different parts of Texas and they were blessed with the opportunity to meet many different people and make numerous friends along the way, many of which are still friends with the family to this day. One of the greatest pleasures he obtained throughout the years was participating in numerous civic organizations in both Laredo and other cities he lived in. He started with the Laredo Jaycees as a young adult. He was also a member at different times with the Optimist Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and eventually joined the Rotary Club, an organization he was involved in for over 30 years. During that time, Luis designed and built several parade floats for the organization, helped in restarting the local Christmas parade, and received numerous awards and recognitions for his service to the club and the community. He was also very active in the Laredo St Patrick's Church Men's Club and church ushers. He loved travelling throughout the U.S. and abroad with friends and family, and counts among his most memorable events in his life the time he was able to attend Sunday Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2010, and visiting St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, in Rome, in 2017.
