LUIS HERNANDEZ
Luis Hernandez, 80, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 in Laredo, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Hernandez was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. In 1965 he was drafted by the United Sates Army. He did his tour of duty in Vietnam and served his assignment with the Battery C Battalion 319th Artillery and was a member of the 173rd Airborne Infantry Brigade (Sky Soldiers). He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Vietnam Service Medal (VSM), Vietnam Campaign Medal (VCM), Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM), Army Parachutist Badge, Marksmanship Badge EXP (M-16), Army Sharpshooter Badge (SPS M-16), 2 Army Overseas Service Bars (O/S Bars). He was Honorably Discharged in 1968 after completing his tour of duty and had reached the rank of Sergeant.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Cordelia Hernandez, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Genaro and Beatriz Hernandez and by his sister Victoria Hernandez.
He is survived by his spouse Gloria Hernandez.
His Children, Claudia (Marshall) Anderson, Luis Hernandez, Jr. and Xochitl (Sergio) Gomez.
His three grandchildren, Cordelia Jones, Perry Jones and Sergio Gomez Jr.
His three brothers, Daniel Hernandez, Arturo Hernandez and Genaro Hernandez Jr.
Also surviving him are numerous other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 7, 2024 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. A Liturgy of the Word was officiated in the funeral home chapel before departing to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery where committal services and interment followed with Full Military Honors, provided by the United States Army Color Guard and by the American Legion Post 59.
PALLBEARERS WERE: Sergio Gomez, Sergio Gomez Jr., Marshall Anderson, Perry Jones, Luis Hernandez, Bobby Vaughn, Arturo Hernandez and Genaro Hernandez.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave.
