MANUEL "MEME" DEGOLLADO

Manuel Degollado, affectionately known as "Meme", was born on February 15, 1966 in Laredo, Texas, to parents Manuel Pablo Degollado and Librada Amalia Davila Degollado. He was a dutiful son and loving sibling.

Meme attended Mary Help of Christians School and felt blessed to receive a Catholic upbringing. He attended LISD Schools after that, proudly graduating from Martin High School's "Mighty Class of 1984" He remained active MHS Class of 1984 Committee for the organization
of class reunions. He strongly believed in "Once a Tiger, always a tiger".

In 1984, Meme became an active member of the Cursillo Movement and continued serving in cursillo retreats for countless years. His passion to help others included a ministry of Webb County jail visits, nursing homes, Bethany House, local hospitals, home visits to the elderly, Scripture reader and Eucharistic minister to the sick. He was a Catechist and participated in missionary work in Arteaga, Coahuila. He was also a part of a prayer group with elderly women. He organized fundraisers for the people in need and jamaicas for churches, as well as neighborhood posadas and devotedly continued doing this until the time of his passing. His devotion to Mary, the Blessed Mother, was evident throughout his life and in the planning of the Visperas de la Virgen de Guadalupe on each Dec. 11.

He was part of a religious community in Austin, Texas named "Hermanos de Juan Diego" from 1989-1991. He returned to his native Laredo to take care of his mother when she became ill, until her passing.

His talents were many and among them was culinary arts and floral arrangement. He owned two flower shops "Degollado's Florals" and did catering for many years. Some of the community work he provided was decorating floats for WBCA for Harmony School of Excellence, floats for IBC, as well as seasonal decorating for IBC. He was also a wedding singer and wedding coordinator. Meme also performed as Santa Clause for Laredo College Children's Daycare and the Orphanage for numerous years. He also participated in Laredo's own Dancing with the Stars, and won 3rd place.

Music was also one of the talents that Meme shared from an early age with those around him. He was a member of the MHS "La Banda Del Animo" and a member of the first mariachi of MHS. He was a member of the Laredo Philharmonic Chorale for one season, and organized choirs for numerous Catholic Churches for 26 years. Among them are St. Patrick's, San Martin, San Luis Rey, San Francisco Javier, San Agustin, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. John Newman, and Our Lady of Lourdes, in Zapata, Texas.

Meme's greatest ministry served him well. He gave peace to many families through music after losing a loved one, providing consolation services at vigils and rosaries, and cemetery burials. One of Meme's last gifts to others was the creation of a group called "Apóstoles en el Camino", which connects truck drivers to Christ.

Manuel wanted to get to Heaven empty handed, because he used every drop of talents and gifts for the benefit of others and the glory of God. His life is a living testimony of God's Love in his life. The Cursillo teaching of "Making a friend, and bringing your friend to Christ" was the way he chose to live his life.

And on November 28, 1998, Meme married Dionne Allyson Raymond, the love of his life. And with the fruit of their love, God blessed Meme and Allyson with the birth of two children, Marina and Donato. Together they were blessed with 26 years of living a beautiful life with their sons.

The Family would like to give thanks to Dr. Garza Gongora, Altus Hospice services and Doris Dominguez for all her help and special care she gave Meme during his illness, and to his sons, Donato Andre Degollado and Manuel Pablo Degollado for being the extra strength he needed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel Pablo Luis Degollado.

Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave. Visitations will continue on Sunday, June 18, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a vigil of the deceased, officiated by Rev. Deacon Peñuñuri,  will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will begin departing at 9:05 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at San Agustin Cathedral Church. Committal services will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Manuel Degollado, cariñosamente llamado "Meme", nació el 15 de febrero de 1966 en Laredo, Texas. Sus padres fueron Manuel Pablo Degollado y Librada Amalia Dávila Degollado. Fué un hijo responsable y un hermano amoroso.

Meme asistió a la escuela Mary Help of Christians y se sintió agradecido de recibir una educación Católica. Después asistió a escuelas del distrito LISD. Se recibió de Martin High School en el año 1984 y fue coordinador del comité para las reuniones de su clase.

En 1984, Meme se convirtió en un miembro activo del Movimiento Cursillista. Su pasión por servir a los más necesitados incluyó visitas a las cárceles del Condado Webb, el comedor Bethany House, Hospitales Locales, Hogares de Ancianos, Lector y Ministro Eucarístico para los enfermos. Fue Catequista y participó en misiones a Arteaga, Coahuila. Perteneció a un grupo de oración de señoras mayores de edad. Organizó campañas de recaudaciones para personas necesitadas. También organizo jamaicas para Parroquias y Posadas Comunitarias. Su devoción a la Madre María fue evidente a través de su vida y en las actividades que planeaba para las Vísperas de la Virgen de Guadalupe cada 11 de diciembre.

Meme formó parte de una comunidad religiosa en Austin Texas llamada "Hermanos de Juan Diego de 1989 al 1991. Después regresó a Laredo para cuidar de su madre enferma hasta que ella falleció.

Fueron muchos sus talentos y entre ellos el arte culinario y el arreglo de flores. Fue dueño de dos florerías llamadas "Degollado's Florals" y fue proovedor de banquetes durante años. Entre su trabajo comunitario, decoró carros alegóricos para los desfiles de la celebración de Washington para la escuela de Harmony School of Excellence. También lo hizo para el banco IBC, e incluso decoró el banco para Navidad durante años. Sus talentos incluían ser cantante en bodas y coordinador de bodas. Fue el Santa Clause en la guardería de LC y en el orfanato durante años.

La música fue otro de los talentos que compartió Meme desde temprana edad. Fue miembro de "La Banda del Animo" en MHS y del primer Mariachi Escolar en la misma escuela preparatoria. Perteneció al Laredo Philharmonic Chorale, y organizó coros en la Diócesis de Corpus Christi y Laredo durante 26 años. Entre ellos, fueron los coros de la iglesia San Patricio, San Martin, San Luis Rey, San Francisco Javier, San Agustín y Nuestra Señora de Lourdes en Zapata, Texas.

Su mayor talento le sirvió muy bien. Brindó paz a muchas familias después de perder a un ser querido, compartiendo Consuelo en servicios fúnebres, Iglesias y cementerios locales. Participó activamente en un grupo de camioneros de carretera denominado "Apóstoles en el Camino", en este grupo se comparta la palabra de Dios mientras se encuentran en camino. Manuel siempre quiso llegar al Cielo con las manos vacías, porque utilizó sus dones para el beneficio de los demás y la Gloria de Dios. Su vida es un vivo testamento al amor de Dios en su vida. Meme eligió vivir la enseñanza Cursillista de "Haz un amigo, Sé un amigo, atrae tu amigo a Cristo".

Meme se casó con el amor de su vida, Dionne Allyson Raymond, el 28 de noviembre de 1998. Y con el fruto de su amor, Dios los bendijo con dos hijos, Marina y Donato. Meme sintió apoyado por su familia en hacer las obras de Dios.

La Familia quiere agradecer al Dr. Garza Góngora, a los servicios de Altus Hospice y a Doris Domínguez por toda la ayuda y el cuidado especial que le brindó a Meme durante su enfermedad, y a sus hijos, Donato Andre Degollado y Manuel Pablo Degollado por ser la fuerza extra que el necesitó.

La Santa Misa se celebrará a las 9 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica San Luis Rey, el Sábado 17 de Junio de 2023. El velorio se realizará a partir de las 4 p.m. a las 9 p.m. en Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. en San Bernardo. Las visitas continuarán el Domingo 18 de Junio de 2023 de 4 p.m. a las 9 p.m. y se realizará una vigilia para el difunto a las 7 p.m. en la capilla de la funeraria. Los servicios funerarios comenzarán a partir de las 9:05 a.m. el Lunes, 19 de Junio de 2023. La Santa Misa se celebra a las 9:30 a.m. en la iglesia Catedral de San Agustín. El Sepelio se llevara a cabo en el Panteon Calvario Catolico.
