MARIA OLIVIA BARRERA Maria Olivia Barrera, 73, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 In Laredo Texas. Mrs. Maria Olivia Gutierrez Barrera, our beloved sister, aunt, great aunt and friend left us for her permanent home with the Lord on October 7, 2012 after a long illness. She was born to Emilio Gutierrez Jr., and Petra De Leon Gutierrez on April 28, 1939, in Laredo Texas where she lived all her life. She attended Our Lady Of Guadalupe School and graduated from Martin High School in 1957 with honors and St. Mary's school of Nursing in Galveston, Texas where she earned her diploma and RN degree in 1960. She was employed by Mercy Hospital for some years, but her love of children led her to work with the Laredo Independent School District as a Nurse until her retirement. She is preceded in death by her loving father Emilio Gutierrez and her mother Petra Gutierrez. Her loving husband Armando Alfonso Barrera. And an infant baby brother. She is survived by her sisters Elia (Juan) Sandovald abd Alicia (Thomas) Urie. Two nieces and four Nephews. Also by numerous relatives and many friends. All will miss her warm smile and her willingness to share of herself to anyone she thought needed her help. We will miss her willingness to help others, and she never met a stranger. Heaven's gain is our loss. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012departing from the funeral home chaple. Holy mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Laredo City Cemetery.
