Obituary

MARIA CARMEN GALLEGOS

Maria Carmen Gallegos, 79, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home on Friday, August 8, 2025, in Laredo, Texas.

Mrs. Gallegos was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and remained a lifelong resident of the community she loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Micaela Flores; her beloved husband of 53 years, Geronimo M. Gallegos; brothers, Ricardo Flores and Raul Flores; and sister, Micaela Flores Lopez.
Brothers-in-law, Cayetano (Carmen+) Gallegos and Adan Gallegos.

She is survived by her children: Claudia (Renato) Medina Sr., Raquel (Ricardo) Medrano, and Mari Carmen (Jose Torres Sr.) Gallegos; grandchildren: Renato Medina Jr., Isabel Medina, Jose Torres Jr., Miguel Torres, Ejay Herrera, and Jorge Torres; great-grandchildren: Romeo, RJ, and Emilio. She is also survived by her sister, Josie (Alfonso) Cantu Sr.; brothers, Juan (Aurora) Flores and Leopoldo (Sylvia) Flores; sisters-in-law, Guadalupe Flores, Dominga Hernandez Flores, Concepcion (Ernesto+) Rodriguez and San Juana Gallegos; and brother-in-law, Sixto Lopez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Maria Carmen shared a beautiful marriage filled with love, dancing, and hosting family and friends in her home. She was a devoted member of San Luis Rey Catholic Church, serving her parish in many ways—as a CCD teacher, a member of the church choir, the Guadalupanas, and the Grupo de Evangelización. She was also well known for continuing her family's cherished tradition of hosting yearly Posadas, a celebration started by her grandmother and carried on with such joy.

Throughout her life, she worked in various roles that reflected her dedication to service and creativity, including 12 years at Ursuline Convent, Gonzalez Ceramics, and 8 years with Laredo ISD serving Special Education students at Farias and Santa Maria Elementary schools.

Her passion for crafting and floral arrangements led her to open her own small business, "Mary's Balloon Bouquets." Her laughter, warm spirit, and joy for life were contagious, leaving a lasting mark on all who knew her.

She will be remembered for her faith, her love of family, her generous heart, and the way she made life brighter for everyone around her.
