MARIA ELENA GONZALEZ Maria Elena Gonzalez,, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 in Houston, Texas at the age of 79 Mrs. Gonzalez was born on March 27, 1933 in Durango, Mexico. She was a loving mother devoted to all of her family. A major accomplishment was the time she received her GED at the age of 50. She was very proud to have become a U.S. citizen, she became very involved in education and politics. Her favorite politician was Judge Raul Vasquez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Porfirio and Daria Cortez. Sisters, Maria Luisa Blanco and Emilia Cantu. 1st Husband, Rogelio J. Sanchez. 2nd Husband, Roberto Gonzalez. She is survived by her children, Maria Luisa Sanchez, Maria Velia (Alfredo) Saldana, Maria Elena Morales, Rogelio J. Sanchez Jr., Luz Maria (Juan Jr.) Rodriguez, Maria Veronica Aleman, Angelica Maria (Sylvester) Smith, Roberto (Frances) Gonzalez Jr., Jorge Gonzalez, Guillermo (Diana) Gonzalez, Maria Isabel (Jesus) Chavez and Maria Magdalena (Juan) Alejo. Brother, Andres (Olga) Muro. 33 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The Family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Dorothy Serna, Dr. Washington Sereaton and American Hospice in Houston, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at San Agustin Cathedral. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
