MARIA DEL REFUGIO "MAMA CUQUITA" GARCIA Maria del Refugio Garcia, 91, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at a local hospital. She was born in Del Rio, Texas to Refugio and Candelaria Garcia on November 28, 1920. Mom was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She served with the Red Cross during World War II. She worked as a nurse up until her retirement. She lived her life to the fullest, caring and helping all the people she met. She was an exceptional daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was affectionally called "Mama Cuquita." Mom will be greatly missed however she will always live in our hearts. She is preceded in death her father, parents, Refugio and Candelaria Ramos. Her loving husband of 50 years of marriage, Enrique Garcia. Brothers, Felipe and Pablo Ramos. Granddaughter, Margarita Del Refugio Garcia. She is survived by her son, Arturo (Hijita Margarita) Garcia. Sister-in-Law, Oralia Ramos. Grandchildren, Arturo S. and Abel E. Garcia. Also surviving her are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Special thanks to Dr. Milton Haber, Specialty Hospital nurses and staff for caring so dearly for our mother. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at San Vicente De Paul Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
