MARIA TERESA SALINAS

In Loving Memory of Maria Teresa Salinas, beloved mother, aunt, sister, and friend. A life well lived.

Age 97

Maria Teresa Salinas was born in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon Mexico and lived in Laredo for almost 50 years.  She passed away in Austin, Texas.  Maria Teresa's early life in Cerralvo, a small quaint town, saw her work for the local bus company when many women of her age were not allowed to work outside the home.  Necessity being what it was, she learned early the value of hard work and the financial benefits she could offer her family.  Family changes brought her to the big city of Monterrey where she learned how to maneuver city buses and get around town.  She recalled being scared the first weeks but then she managed like a pro.  It was preparation for bigger life changes and bigger city: marriage and Chicago.  A very cold, big city that she once again learned to maneuver.  The twists and turns of life landed her and her children in Laredo.  She created a loving home for her small family where they grew up and pursued their own interests.  She worked many different positions during her life: selling bus tickets, retail, nutritional counselor, library staffer, and many more.  She loved to walk and stay active.  Her garden was always well tended and full of color.  She loved her religious community and belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish for the almost 50 years she lived in Laredo.  Church Jamaicas, bingos and events were the highlight of her year and she was sad to leave them when health forced her to move to Austin, Texas where she lived her last few years close to her daughter.

She is preceded in death by her son, Tomas J. Salinas.  Her parents, Tiburcio Rodriguez and Maria Marichalar de Rodriguez, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Luis and Josefina Rodriguez, Rodolfo and Elida Rodriguez, Carlos and Irma Rodriguez and Ramiro and Ninfa Rodriguez.

She is survived by her daughter San Juana (Juanyra) Salinas; her sister Alicia Rodriguez Marichalar, and many wonderful, loving nieces and nephews and their beautiful children and grandchildren.

Also surviving her are other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a vigil of the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave . Funeral services will begin departing the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

María Teresa Salinas nació en Cerralvo, Nuevo León, México y vivió en Laredo, Texas por casi 50 años.  Falleció en  Austin, Texas.   María Teresa disfrutó su juventud en Cerralvo, un pueblo pequeño y tranquilo.  Su vida fue familiar hasta que tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar para una línea de autobuses vendiendo boletos.  Oportunidad que no se les presentaba fácilmente a las mujeres en esos tiempos.  Aprendió rápidamente el valor de su trabajo y las oportunidades de contribuir a su familia.  A través del tiempo se presentó la necesidad de mudarse a Monterrey, ciudad enorme e industrial.  Con miedo esos primeros días aprendió a usar las rutas de autobuses locales y moverse como necesario por la ciudad.  Todo esto la preparó para cambios adicionales: matrimonio y una ciudad aún más grande: Chicago.  Otra enorme ciudad donde pudo abrirse camino.  Las vueltas de la vida la trajeron a Laredo con sus hijos pequeños.  En Laredo formó un hogar para su pequeña familia donde crecieron y siguieron sus sueños.  Tuvo muchos trabajos al largo de su vida y los disfrutó todos.  Siempre le gustó ser activa y disfrutaba de la caminata a diario.  Su jardín era su actividad preferida y siempre lo mantenía lleno de vida y color.   María Teresa fue gran devota de nuestra señora de Guadalupe y perteneció a su iglesia en Laredo por casi 50 años.  Disfrutaba mucho de las jamaicas, bingos y actividades religiosas a través del año.  Su salud impuso una última mudanza a Austin para estar cerca de su hija.

La precedieron en la muerte; su hijo, Tomas J. Salinas.  Sus padres, Tiburcio Rodríguez  y Maria Marichalar de Rodríguez.  Sus hermanos y cuñadas,  Luis y Josefina Rodríguez, Rodolfo y Elida Rodríguez, Carlos e Irma Rodríguez y Ramiro y Ninfa Rodríguez.

Le sobreviven su hija San Juana (Juanyra) Salinas, su hermana Alicia Rodríguez y extraordinarios  sobrinos/sobrinas y sus hermosos hijos y nietos.

También le sobreviven otros familiares y numerosos amigos.

Visitaciones se llevarán a cabo el miércoles 6 de agosto de 2025 de 4 p.m. a 9 p.m. y la vigilia en memoria del difunto se realizará a las 7 p.m. en Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, ubicada en 800 Boston St., en la Avenida San Bernardo. Los servicios funerarios comenzarán a partir de la funeraria a las 8:30 h del jueves 7 de agosto de 2025. La Santa Misa se celebrará a las 9:00 h en la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. El sepelio se llevara a cabo en el Cementerio Católico del Calvario.
