MARIA ALICIA SERNA Maria Alicia Serna, 73, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at a local nursing home. Mrs. Serna was born in Laredo, Texas and had been a life long resident. She was employed at the old Mercy Hospital during the term when Jimmy Carter was president and the same year he visited the hospital here in Laredo. She enjoyed the game of bowling and had become an avid bowler for numerous years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Corina Villarreal. Parent-in-laws, Jesus and Sara Serna. Brother, Ramiro Villarreal She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years of marriage, Jesus Serna Jr. Children, Jesus Serna III, Gabriela Serna and Jorge Serna Grandchildren, Hector, Gabriel, Tomas, Karolina and Cristian Great-grandchildren, Natalie Marie and Debanie Rose Sisters, Bertha (Audomaro) Sandoval, Gloria (Eleazar) Garza and Veronica (William) Counynse. Also surviving her are nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. A special thanks to her health care provider Graciel Perez. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
