MARIA SOCORRO LOPEZ

Maria del Socorro Lopez, 94, passed away on January 5, 2024 after living a long, meaningful life full joys, sorrows, love and a lifelong devotion to God.

Socorro was born in Monterrey, Mexico and then moved to Laredo, Texas as a young woman and shortly after married and became a mother to eleven sons and daughters.

Socorrito had a deep devotion to Jesus Christ and the Catholic church joining many groups such as Sociedad del Altar, Adoracion Nocturna, Coro and a Lectora every Sunday.

In her later years she joined a Social Community Care for Seniors where she discovered her love of knitting, sewing, painting and other crafts. La Luz Adult Daycare helped her create a sense of community while discovering hobbies including singing, arts and crafts, loteria, and dancing.

Throughout her life she  produced beautiful art not only for herself but, for her family: sewing baby blankets for new arrivals to the family, homemade holiday gifts for her grandchildren, among other gifts.

As the family Matriarch, Socorro was filled with knowledge, advice and unconditional love to those who sought it from her. She was able to witness the love she sowed for 9 decades on her last months on Earth where she was surrounded by the delicate care of family. On her final day, Socorro passed to the sounds of people she loved, the surroundings of the house she created, and the understanding that God had lived and loved alongside her until the very end.

She will be missed and loved by those who were fortunate to know her.

Most importantly, she will live on through those who pass down her legacy of warmth, love, wisdom and stories.

Socorro is survived by her daughters Maria Isabel Carerra, Leticia (Cyndee) Lopez, Adriana (Gilberto) Garza. Her sons, Daniel Lopez, Carlos (Norma) Lopez, Edwardo (Oli) Lopez.

She is preceded in death by her sons and daughters Juan Lorenzo Lopez, Ernesto Lopez, Maria del Rosario Martinez, Patricia Angelica Garza, Norma Alicia Lopez and her grandchildren Sarah Ashley Lopez, Jaime Lopez, Ricardo Lopez Jr.

She is survived by over 40 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Funeral Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. Holy Mass was celebrated at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. Committal services will be held at a later date.

PALLBEARERS WERE: Daniel Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Eduardo Lopez, Patrick A. Lopez, Eduardo Lopez Jr., Carlos Lopez Jr., Pedro Martinez and Ernesto Lopez.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE: Michael Lopez, Gael Lopez, Erick Lopez, Ricardo Lopez, Victor Carrera, Mark Lopez and Francisco Javier Lopez.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Funeral Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave.

María del Socorro López, de 94 años, falleció el 5 de enero de 2024 después de vivir una vida larga y significativa, llena de alegrías, tristezas, amor y una devoción a Dios durante toda su vida.
Socorro nació en Monterrey, México y luego se mudó a Laredo, Texas cuando era joven y poco después se casó y se convirtió en madre de once hijos e hijas.

Socorrito tenía una profunda devoción a Jesucristo y a la iglesia católica uniéndose a muchos grupos como la Sociedad del Altar, Adoración Nocturna, Coro y una Lectora todos los domingos.

En sus últimos años se incorporó a una Atención Social Comunitaria a Personas Mayores donde descubrió su afición por el tejido, la costura, la pintura y otras manualidades. La Luz Adult Daycare la ayudó a crear un sentido de comunidad mientras descubre pasatiempos como el canto, las artes y manualidades, la lotería y el baile.

A lo largo de su vida, produjo hermosas obras de arte no solo para ella sino también para su familia: cosiendo mantas de bebé para los recién llegados a la familia, regalos navideños caseros para sus nietos, entre otros regalos.

Como matriarca de la familia, Socorro estaba llena de conocimiento, consejos y amor incondicional hacia quienes lo buscaban de ella. Pudo ser testigo del amor que sembró durante 9 décadas en sus últimos meses en la Tierra donde estuvo rodeada del delicado cuidado de una familia. En su último día, Socorro pasó por los sonidos de las personas que amaba, el entorno de la casa que creó y la comprensión de que Dios había vivido y amado junto a ella hasta el final.

Quienes tuvieron la suerte de conocerla la extrañarán y la amarán.

Lo más importante es que vivirá a través de quienes transmitan su legado de calidez, amor, sabiduría e historias.

A Socorro le sobreviven sus hijas María Isabel Carerra, Leticia (Cyndee) López, Adriana (Gilberto) Garza. Sus hijos, Daniel López, Carlos (Norma) López, Edwardo (Oli) López.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus hijos e hijas Juan Lorenzo López, Ernesto López, María del Rosario Martínez, Patricia Angélica Garza, Norma Alicia López y sus nietos Sarah Ashley López, Jaime López, Ricardo López Jr.

Le sobreviven más de 40 nietos, 71 bisnietos y 1 tataranieto.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el miércoles 10 de enero de 2024 de 4:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. y se oficiará un Rosario a las 19:00 horas. por el Rev. Diácono Raymundo Guevara en las Capillas Funerarias Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, 800 Boston St. y San Bernardo Ave. Los servicios funerarios comenzarán el jueves 11 de enero de 2024 despidiéndose a las 8:30 a.m. La Santa Misa se celebrará a las 9:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica Mother Cabrini. Los servicios de sepelio se llevarán a cabo en una fecha posterior.
