MARTHA CUELLAR SEGOVIA
Martha Cuellar Segovia, 91, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Laredo, Texas.
She was the daughter of Felipe Cuellar and Olivia Martinez Cuellar.
Martha was born in Laredo, Texas, on February 3, 1932. She spent much of her time at her family's ranch, the Martinez-Cuellar Ranch, where she developed a love for riding horses and fostering abandoned calves. She graduated from Martin High School, Class of 1950, and Laredo Junior College in 1953. She was also a member of the Laredo Junior College chapter of the Lambda Delta Sigma Phi sorority.
Martha worked for the Yeary Battery and Electric Company for about 40 years, then with United Independent School District's Payroll Department for 13 years. She volunteered as a Texas Association of Hospitals Auxiliary member for many years. She was a member of several genealogical societies, including the Villa San Agustin de Laredo Genealogical Society. She was significantly involved in organizing the Martin High School class reunions. Once a Tiger - Always a Tiger! Martha also took great pride in performing civic duties by volunteering and donating to local organizations such as Casa de Misericordia, the Lamar Bruni Vergara Education Center, Blessed Sacrament Church, and many more. Martha and her husband, Andres, were very active parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Martha was well-known for her devotion to her church, community, and family. She consistently attended weddings, birthdays, graduations, and many other memorable moments in the lives of her beloved family and many friends. Many were witnesses to her relentless, selfless care for others. Martha had a humorous side to her personality; she always loved to make others laugh with her wittiness. Martha is often described as an elegant, well-dressed, strong, and independent woman. She was as tough as they come.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Felipe Cuellar and Olivia Martinez Cuellar. Her beloved husband, Andres F. Segovia. Her brothers, Daniel Cuellar and Jose "Pepe" Cuellar, and her sister-in-law Narce Villarreal Cuellar.
She is survived by her first cousins Barbara McCartney (Paul†), Eduardo Cuellar (Elvira), Ernesto Cuellar, Beatrice Torrez (Ernest), Carlos Cuellar (Luz), and her step-children Andres F. Segovia, Jr., Ricardo Segovia, Sara Alicia Perez (Pablo), and Imelda Molina (Federico), nephew Ray Jose Cuellar, and many other family members.
