MARY ELVA CRUZ
Mary Elva Cruz, a dear friend, an educator, and mentor peacefully departed to join our Lord in
His heavenly kingdom on August 11, 2023.
She was a proud graduate of Martin High School, Texas Women University and Texas A & M International University. Her career started at L J
Christen Junior High School, moved to Martin High School, Nixon Annex Campus, Cigarroa
High School, and L B Johnson High School. She enjoyed travelling to so many cities in the
United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Mary Elva was an avid sports fan--a loyal fan of the
Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers. She was an active member of San Martin de
Porres Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalva and Adolfo Guajardo, her husband Martin S
Cruz and two dear friends Veronica S. Almazan and Cristina H Santos.
She is survived by her brothers Adolfo (+Eileen) and Marco A. Guajardo, her step mom Olivia
Guajardo, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and great grand nieces and nephews, friends,
colleagues and former students. Vita will be missed by her great grand nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to her cousin, Leticia G. Cruz and her children who cared for her during her last
days.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 departing from the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. and San Bernardo Ave. A rosary was recited in funeral home chapel before departing, in funeral procession, to San Martin De Porres Catholic Church to celebrate Holy Mass. Committal services will be held at a later date.
PALLBEARERS WERE: Eddie Cruz, Charlie Cruz, Jesse Cruz, Mark Guajardo, Zaira Cruz and Chayo Moreno.
