MONICA MEDINA BARRIENTOS Monica Medina Barrientos, 56, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at a local hospital. Mrs. Barrientos was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. She was a retired educator from UISD and LISD. Her laughter was impecable and her presence always lit up the room. She loved teaching and working with children. She will be greatly missed, especially by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Felipe Medina and Inez Reyna-Medina. Siblings: Carlos Medina and Gabino Medina. She is survived by her husband of 32 years of marriage, Bernabe Barrientos Jr. Children, Bernabe (Amada) Barrientos III and Rebecca Barrientos and Jennifer Barrientos. Grandchildren, Adrian, Sandra, Roberto Barrientos, Alexis and Alex Nino and Mario and Clarissa Baez. Sisters, Guadalupe Medina, Maria (Joe, deceased) Dufresne, Inez (Jorge, deceased) Chandarlis, Martina Medina, San Juana Medina, Fernanda (Manfredo) Salinas and Andrea Duque. Brothers, Felipe Medina, Perfecto (Ana) Medina and Jesus (Laura) Medina. Also surviving her are nephews, nieces, numerous other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 4 to 9 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m by the Guadalupanas of San Luis Rey. A second rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin at 8:05 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2012 departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
