OLGA C. GONZALEZ

Mrs. Olga Contreras Gonzalez, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, she will always be the beacon of light for all of us in our days ahead. A devotee of the Virgen of Monserratt, she always shared that the Virgin is waiting for her and will be her sponsor in heaven.

Mrs. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her husband, Higinio Z. Gonzalez, her sons, Jose Praxedis Gonzalez, Jose Tomas Gonzalez, Javier Gonzalez, her beloved grandson, Carlos Rubio Jr., her sisters Julia Massey, Estela Contreras, Lilia Sosa, brother Luis Contreras, and, her parents, Praxedis and Bettie Contreras.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Higinio (AraBella) Gonzalez, Daniel (Elizabeth) Gonzalez, Olga Diana (Carlos) Rubio, Sara IRma (Alfred) Montez, Ramiro (Tina) Gonzalez, Roberto (Maria Teresa) Gonzalez and Celinda Gonzalez, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Ms. Gonzalez had worked for LISD numerous years as a substitute teacher, teacher aid and sign language interpreter, taught catechism classes at San Luis Rey Church, and was responsible for bringing religious instruction to the Deaf community in Laredo.

Pallbearers were: Kevin Rubio, Michael Montez, Freddy Montez, Marcus Montez, Alex Gonzalez and Jacob Piñeda.

Funeral arrangements are being handled through Hernandez, Lopez Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a vigil of the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez, Lopez and Sons, Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. on San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin departing at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
