ROBERTO RAMIREZ
Roberto Ramirez, Sr.
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roberto Ramirez, Sr. on August 10, 2025 at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. He was a good husband, a caring father, and an extraordinary grandfather.
Roberto Ramirez was born to Manuel and Inocencia Ramirez on September 10, 1944, in Laredo,Texas. Deeply proud of where he came from and the life that shaped who he was. As a boy, he grew up in el barrio el cuatro where everyone knew and took care of each other. He attended St.John Bosco School, Urban Elementary, Christen Middle, and Martin High School.
Life tested Roberto early, as he lost his father at the tender age of 13- a loss that left a lasting mark and inspired his tireless work ethic. As a boy he worked hard to contribute to his family, from selling flowers and limes in downtown Laredo to running a newspaper route; he learned responsibility and perseverance at a young age. Later, as a teenager, he traveled far from home to work in las piscas, harvesting crops in places such as Fort Collins, Colorado and Sunnyvale, California.
Roberto took pride in being a young passionate activist advocating for justice and equality alongside his brothers as they actively participated in many marchas, huelgas, and protestas locally and across the state and country with organizations such as La Raza Unido and the Chicano Movement. Their efforts helped champion causes like fair wages, workers' rights, and empowerment for the Hispanic community, especially in Laredo.
In 1974, he married Angelica Flores; his wife of 51 years. Together they raised five children and had ten grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Roberto valued education and, while balancing the responsibilities of work and family, he proudly earned his Bachelors' Degree in Business Administration from Laredo State University in 1983. He dedicated 40 years of service to Laredo Paint & Decorating.
Anyone that knew him, could with ease, tell you what his greatest joy was, his family. As you would always find him in the audience of their ceremonies, sidelines and stands of their football, basketball, and baseball games, and every family gathering - camera in hand, ready to capture every cherished moment. His love, encouragement, and pride in his children and grandchildren were unwavering.
Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Inocencia Ramirez, and brothers Manuel "Chaca" Ramirez and Jose Juan Ramirez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Angelica Ramirez, his children Roberto (Adriana) Ramirez, Patricia Ramirez (Roberto) Gonzalez, Graciela (Kyle) Herndon, Veronica Ramirez, and Angelica Ramirez as well as his 10 adored grandchildren; Roberto Gonzalez III, Roberto Ramirez III, Juan Esparza, Alberto Gonzalez, Eric Ramirez-Villarreal, Michael Guerra, Mia Guerra, Angelina Herndon, Grace Herndon, and Kyle Herndon.
