Rosario Quiroz was born on July 19, 1943 in Laredo, Texas. She attended local schools and obtained her diploma from Martin High School in 1961. During summer breaks as a teenager, she worked housekeeping at the Cortez Motel. Another early job for Ms. Quiroz was that of front desk clerk at the Bender Hotel. Soon after graduation, she married and started a family.
In 1969 Rosario Quiroz completed the LVN program offered by the Sisters of Mercy. She furthered her education and received an RN degree from Laredo Junior College. Throughout her nursing career, she worked at different patient care units at Mercy Hospital on Logan Ave. It was in 1992 that an illness forced her into retirement.
Ms. Quiroz is preceded in death by her husband Jesus Clemente Quiroz, her mother Virginia H. Speer, her father Manuel Rincon, her in-laws: Refugio & Micaela Quiroz, and her beloved aunts: Manuela Malacara, Elena Ramirez, and Domitila Herrera.
She is survived by her three children: Maria Lopez (Luis), Jesus M. Quiroz (Ana Laura), Alfredo L. Quiroz (Annette); three grandsons: Luis Eduardo Quiroz, Luis M. Lopez, and Nicolas E. Quiroz; and numerous friends and relatives.
