Obituary

SALOMON OVIEDO
Salomon Oviedo, 102, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at a local hospital.
Mr. Oviedo was born in Comfort, Texas and had been a long life resident of Laredo, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elena E. Oviedo.
Parents, Cecilio and Concepcion Oviedo.
Son, Salomon R. Oviedo Jr.
Brother, Manuel Oviedo and Teodoro Oviedo.
Sisters, Maximiliana Sanchez, Antonia Arredondo, Zenaida O. Cortinas and Esmeralda Gutierrez.
He was a veteran of World War II, in which he served with the United States Army from 1942 until his separation in 1945.  He did his tour of duty as a Grade 4 Technician with the 108th Infantry. He served during the battle at Guadalcanal, at Luzon, in 1945 and earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific  Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star, American Theater Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his children, Nelda Oviedo, Concepcion (Federico) Solis, Esmeralda (Arturo) Santos Jr., Nora A. Oviedo, Jose Javier (Lizzy) Oviedo, Luis Antonio Oviedo and Olga Leticia Oviedo.
30 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Brother, Patricio (Maria) Oviedo.
Sisters, Delia Wolters, Celia Ramirez and Natividad Almendarez.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapel, 800 Boston at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, April 26, 2017  at 9:30 a.m. departing from the funeral home chapel. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Committal services and interment will follow in the Laredo City Cemetery.
