SOFIA R. CASTRO
Sofia R. Castro passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, September 22, 2020, in her home at the age of 86 surrounded by the people who loved her the most and who will cherish her memory forever – her children.
She was born in San Ignacio Texas, on August 31, 1934, to Ezequiel and Juventina Navarro.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Enrique Castro, Sr., her parents; brothers: Gustavo, Santos, and Ezequiel Navarro; daughter in-law: Amanda Castro; parents in-law, Benito and Maria B. Castro.
Mrs. Castro, who attended St. Augustine and Laredo's Martin High School, was a devout Catholic to Mother Cabrini Church, and she dedicated her life to her husband and children.
She is survived by her loving children: Enrique (Olga) Castro, Jr., Leticia (Guadalupe) Bernal, Alberto (Amanda + ) Castro, Patricia (Jim) McMahon, Roberto (Linda) Castro, Gilbert Castro, Sandra (Javier) Rodriguez; grandchildren: Melissa and Celina (David Villanueva) Bernal, Clarissa (Carlos) Gonzalez, David (Cynthia) Castro, Stephanie Castro, Kacie (Chris) Klosowsky, Stacie Cruz, Xavier, Alexis, and Anissa Rodriguez; great grandchildren: Juan Carlos (JC) Bernal, Blake and Brielle Gonzalez, and Charlie and Emma Castro. Sister: Elvia Navarro; brother in-law: Roberto (Mary) Castro; sisters in-law Maria Navarro and Inez Castro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 25 th from 4 to 9 P.M. and a Vigil of the Deceased will be held at 7:00 P.M. in the Hernandez, Lopez, and Sons Northside Chapels, 800 Boston St. at San Bernardo Ave. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, September 26 th departing the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. and holy mass will be celebrated at Mother Cabrini Church, at 11:00 A.M. Committal services and interment will then follow in the Veteran's Section of the Laredo City Cemetery, where she will rest eternally, with her husband. In keeping with the city guidelines/recommendations, the family reminds all visitors to wear masks, practice social distancing, and sanitize hands regularly throughout the services. Occupancy will be limited to forty visitors at a time.
