"Doña Trine"
Our matriarch, Trinidad Martinez Ortiz, 95 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Mrs. Ortiz was born on February 22, 1924 in Brownsville, Texas, to Fidel Martinez and Maria Delgado Martinez. Having to work from a very young age, as education was scares in those days, Mom worked the fields of South Texas to the apple orchards, and green fields of Michigan. It was these traveling times of her youth, that she met my dad, Pablo Perez Ortiz, not long afterward they were married, they started a family, as at that time dad started working as an Auto Mechanic for the U.S. Border Patrol. Not one to he left behind, Mom starting her restaurant waitressing career at Southland Café downtown, working for the Pappas Family. She then worked at Wagner Café with the Ortiz Family. It was then in the mid 1950's that she went to work at the historic Pan American Courts and Café for the Rocha Family. Having excelled at her craft, she was offered better employment and went to work at Cactus Garden and Café for Mrs, Jones. She finally ended her career at the famous Western Grille, Having served many political figures, and prominent families of Laredo, the Farias and Cousulis family loved her her there. Mom retired in 1984 after dads passing, resting at home enjoying her plants in her beloved neighborhood, Los Amores.  Her and dad raised ten children, and always instilled a good work ethic, and obtaining an education.
